Event Sustainability Intern
Job Title: PHS SHOWS AND EVENTS INTERN, SUSTAINABILITY
Duties: This internship will focus on the creation of a green team for the 2021 Philadelphia Flower Show. This role will work closely with both the volunteer management team and the event operations team. Responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
- Research green team initiatives in place for other events
- Based on research and needs, develop outline for green team for the Philadelphia Flower Show
- Assist with recruiting and establishment of committee for green team. Regularly interact with committee.
- Develop descriptions for all green team roles
- Assist with developing and monitoring scheduling for green team
- Assist with recruiting of volunteers for the green team
- Assist with training and preparing green team volunteers for Show
- Serve as key contact for green team onsite.
Working
Location: January – mid-May & July: predominantly remote/virtual. Some attendance may be needed at PHS Headquarters, 100 N. 20th St, 5th Floor, Philadelphia, PA 19103 leading up to the Show. Flexible arrangement with supervisor.
Mid-May – June: Flower Show (dates are TBD - FDR Park) will be outdoors with a temporary office set-up indoors. Show is open to the public late May/early June. Shows and Events staff are expected to move to FDR Park in May. Onsite presence required at event venue: FDR Park, 1500 Pattison Avenue, Philadelphia, PA 19145
Compensation: A stipend will be provided to the intern.
Transportation: There is no staff parking at PHS headquarters. Parking at FDR is still to be determined. We encourage use of public transportation.
Schedule: Full dates for the internship are from mid-January through July 15.
Standard hours are 9 AM – 5 PM, with decreasing hours after end of Show. Remote work set-up may allow for more flexible hours. To be arranged directly with supervisor.
Onsite hours at event venue in FDR Park will initially be 8 AM to 5PM with end of day hours increasing as the build progresses. Once Show opens to the general public, hours will vary and will start as early as 6am and may end as late as 11pm.
Internship is intended to be part-time from mid-January to March 31 and is expected to transition to full-time hours for April, May and June. Will transition back to part-time post-Show.
